Lovehoney Textured Sensual Glass Dildo

I’m a big fan of glass dildos. They are super practical, whilst also being whimsical works of art!

What makes this dildo distinct is the spiraled ridge along the outside. I have another glass dildo with a much more pronounced spiral shape and it felt like I was using a cork screw… to screw… myself. It creeped me out a bit, and was not arousing. I mean, who wants a corkscrew in the vagina? I thought I was being so clever getting a cheaper version of the adored Crystal Twist, but as it turns out the Pipedream Icicles version was just a bad time for me. Also, once I found out more about Pipedream as a company I didn’t want to put their products in my vagina anymore.

But I digress!

Textural design

This dildo has a much more subtle spiral. From the outside it doesn’t look like much – when used internally the ridges feel divine. The texture of the glass is very stimulating, yet because it’s so smooth it isn’t irritating at all. The glass also feels pretty great to clench against during orgasm.

An added bonus is the round bulb at the end, which I find quite comfortable to grip when in use (either on myself or someone else). Glass can get pretty slippery, so we need all the help we can get!

I did find it was a little harder to clean around the ridges on this dildo. Where the spiral meets the main body of the toy there are slight inconsistencies which can catch the dirt. I had to get out an old toothbrush and give it a bit of a scrub (note to self: should just get a new toothbrush only for toys, because old toothbrush is kinda ew now that I think about it). Even then, once the dildo had dried, I noticed I had missed a few spots. Since I quite like this dildo I’m willing to put up with the hassle. It is worth keeping in mind though, when comparing it to other glass toys which might not have this issue.

Storage bag hag

I like how this dildo comes with a storage bag (the velvet texture is a fun touch too!). It helps to keep the dildo clean and organised in my drawer.

Bags can also be handy when you take a toy to a friends house. On the way over you can keep the toy protected in your handbag. Once you have tired yourselves out and made a mess you can just pop it back in the bag and deal with the cleaning when you get home. Just chuck the bag in the washing machine after – good as new! Except on some draw string bags (this one included) the knots on the string may come undone in the washing machine. It is fairly easy to fix them up again though.

Tips for use

The first time I used glass dildos with a partner it was a bit confusing. The dildo is so hard it ended up being pokey rather than pleasurable! I found the key was to go slow and gentle and communicate as you figure out how to navigate. I’ve had most success with glass dildos by using them ‘slowly and sensually’. The ridges on this toy make it perfect for just that!

It may not seem like you are ‘doing much’, but the hardness of the dildo means that the sensations are quite intense. Have patience and you may induce quite the reaction. If you want to thrust with gay abandon I would suggest going for a much softer dildo. Of course, when using a dildo on yourself you could probably push it a bit harder, as you can instantly know when it gets too much.

Also, glass dildos can be quite cold – which can be a good thing or a bad thing. If you like temperature play, the cold glass is delightful! However, for some people it can be a turn off. You might want to warm the glass up a bit with some warm/hot water. Personally, I like how the cold heightens the sensation.

Glass & Safety

This toy rates well in terms of safety. This dildo is made from toughened borosilicate glass, which means it will be very durable. As you can imagine, you don’t want to be putting any old glass in your body, as broken glass is the last thing you want in any orifice. However you can rest assured, if it is true borosilicate, even the kegel muscles of She-Hulk don’t have a hope of breaking that thing. If you drop your toy on a hard surface I would still advise double checking for any chips – just in case.

Glass is a great material for toys, as it is hypoallergenic, non-porous and easy to clean. In this case I would pay extra attention to cleaning in the grooves (as previously mentioned). You can use boiling water or even a dishwasher (without detergent) to sterilise this toy. However, be forewarned the glass will heat up to a temperature where it could burn you. Please handle it with care until it cools down.

You can also go to town with multiple types of lube with glass toys. Water based, silicone and oil based lubes are all suitable for use with glass toys, as they will not react with borosilicate glass.

Verdict

This dildo has made its way into my ‘top drawer’ of favorites, which is impressive given the reasonable price tag (this toy is often in lovehoney promotions and sales). If you already like glass toys – or are keen to give them a try – I would recommend giving the Textured Sensual Glass Dildo a go.
